Before co-founding Gubbachi, Rizwan worked as a Program Manager at Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, a 30-years old development organization; where he managed a community-based education program known as PremaVidya, which covered 250 schools across 6 district of Karnataka.
A finance graduate, with over a decade of experience in the financial services industry such as with Goldman Sachs, Rizwan had for long been engaged in Urban Social Issues – especially the cause of education of under privileged children – through voluntary work. He joined the Azim Premji University for a two year course in MA in Development (2011-13) to understand and engage meaningfully with issues in the social sector.
Rizwan has presented a paper on ‘Identity, ghettoization and quality: Case for empowering Urdu school teachers in urban slums of Bangalore’ at 46th National Conference of Indian Association of Teacher Educators (IATE). He is committed to spreading the importance of education by looking into educational issue through philosophical, socio-economic, political and gender lenses to facilitate a holistic view and in implementing multi-pronged approaches to address educational challenges.
He brings to the team his experience in the fields of community work, finance, program management, liaising with officials of the education department, funders and other stakeholders; and a passion to work towards an equitable society.
