Nomita Wahi Sikand, one of the co-founders of Gubbachi Learning Community, has done a MA in Education from the Azim Premji University (2011-2013). Earlier she has taught middle-school children for 7 years and has spent 3 years in an administrative and human resource function at a start-up. She has also guided the development of an on-line platform for learning for CloodOn which successfully runs the online Shankar Mahadevan Academy. The ideal of pursuing justice and equity has been the foundation of her careful involvement in literacy pedagogy.
While at APU, she designed and facilitated a series of writing workshops for teachers and students of a migrant-labour camp school, in Bangalore. The participants experienced the power of being able to communicate effectively through print and have included these learnings in their literacy curriculum for children. The story of a girl child from a migrant family was also published in the Gender issue of Bayalu, a Azim Premji Foundation publication. Nomita was also involved in designing, and facilitating academic reading and writing workshops for students of the Azim Premji University, as part of the academic support function for students. At Gubbachi, she handles the project planning as well as curricular and pedagogic aspects.
