Nisha Nair is the Founder & Director of ArtSparks Foundation. Nisha has been involved in the education sector for 15 years in varied settings, from museums to intergovernmental organizations, schools to nonprofit institutions. She has served in various capacities as teacher, education researcher, curriculum specialist, teacher trainer, and prior to initiating ArtSparks, program director for an arts education nonprofit based in New York City. As program director, Nisha mobilized a team of committed educators to bring quality visual arts programming and teacher training to 78 schools and community-based organizations, serving approximately 13,000 children and 600+ teachers in the 2013-14 school year. During her tenure she oversaw a Ford Foundation-funded school-based programme, and helped secure additional grants from the Council of the City of New York.
Her work in education explores the role of the visual arts in developing the whole child, building more inclusive learning environments that promote the development of 21st century learning and life skills, and developing the capacity of teachers. Nisha has also worked in the field of Marketing Communications Design for 8 years. She holds a BFA in Graphic Design from the Savannah College of Art & Design, an M.A. in Art Education from Columbia University, and an Ed.M. in International Educational Development (Peace & Human Rights Education concentration) from Columbia University.
