Biswajit Apat is a social sector professional with interests that include social science education, civil society organisations in Odisha, spiritualism, social development and transformative education. At School Social Science Initiative, Biswajit leads Operations, Documentation and Communications. He is also responsible for interventions in geography pedagogy.
He has previously worked with the Gujarat Government in the centrally sponsored project, Rashtriya Uchchatar Sikhsha Abhiyaan (RUSA) and with the American India Foundation as Monitoring and Evaluation Expert in the Digital Equaliser programme (DE) in Gujarat.
Biswajit has an MA in Development degree from Azim Premji University, Bangalore. He also has a BA degree from Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, with Geography and Sociology as major and minor subjects, respectively. He was awarded Gold Medal for best performance in Geography honours in the university. He has explored alternative modes of human well-being and social development in an independent study in his post-graduation, titled, Philosophies of Well-being: A journey from Aristotle to Aurobindo. During his internships he worked on the issues of development induced displacement, natural resource management, Forest Rights Act and forest based livelihoods. He is also qualified for Assistant Professorship and Junior Research Fellowship awarded by UGC in Sociology.
