Context

Kaikondrahalli lake is close to the Wipro Sarjapur campus. This lake was on the brink of extinction when the residents close to the lake pitched in to save it. The residents around the lake formed an association called Mahadevapura Parisara Samrakshane Mattu Abhivrudhi Samiti and along with the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) restored the lake.

There is a school next to the lake which does not have adequate sanitary facilities and the people around the lake also defecate openly and pollute the lake. The provision of proper sanitation facilities for the school would provide a hygienic environment to the children of the school as well as the people around the lake.

The project also aims at promoting education especially of the girl child as it is a noted fact that one of the reasons for their high dropout rate is the lack of hygienic sanitation facilities at school.

Partner

The Mahadevapura Parisara Samrakshane Mattu Abhivrudhi Samiti (MAPSAS) which is an association of the residents around the Kaikondrahalli Lake are the implementing partners for this project. MAPSAS along with the BBMP is trying to restore lake in their constituency.

Details

The primary objectives and expected outcomes of the project are:

	Provide a clean hygienic sanitation space for the school and communities around
	Prevent the pollution of the lake water

	It would help the children of the school to attend school and ensure the attendance of the girl child.
	The communities around the lake would also use the sanitation facilities and prevent the pollution of the lake.
